Lunchbox

Now that it is Spring the lunchboxes are coming back out and taking trips with me. This is my new (December) tiffin box and it worked out well. The problem with a traditional lunchbox is the open space that you have to pack everything in plastic or foil which may or may not be recycled. I try not to use plastic because the chance of me washing it and letting it dry to use again are slim to none. The tiffin is a great alternative for a take away.

Lunch included two hard boiled eggs, blackberries, a ham and turkey sandwich, cucumbers and garlic hummus. I didn't eat everything at once but it was all very good. The blackberries were sweet so that was an added bonus. I love almost all fruits but what I buy depends on the price. I'm waiting for cherries to come back in season for less than $8 a pound.

Free Museum Tuesday

Every week in San Diego a few of the Museums are free for residence so I went to the Japanese Friendship Garden. It's a small garden but perfectly lovely and relaxing. It has a Koi garden where a few people were painting and in side a small building you are lead through a room filled with ancient pottery and benches overlooking a Zen garden. One of the things I remember from my Art history class was that if you are rich in Japan you pay someone to rake your garden. As an American we experience Zen gardens as something you rake yourself. They are beautiful and calming to look at either way.

Tax Day

The roses have started blooming and my taxes are done hooray. I'm walking 10,000 steps and day and taking my camera along the way. I am having fun using old images in collages and it is easy enough to take the camera along on trips. I found a great new film that works well in my fisheye camera. Clear crisp pictures are so amazing even when they are of mundane items. We went to the desert last week to see what plants have sprung up. The wind was blowing like crazy and it reminded me of when we drove up north and walked along the water and I felt like the wind would lift us up.

waiting for glue to dry

I'm house sitting for a few days. I wish I had another sweater and I may have to run home for my coat but other than that things are going well. I have a dog to look after she needs the correct pills in her food and the eye drops but she is a very easy dog to get along with. Putting the eye drops in is very funny. She knows it's coming so she closes her eyes up tight as if to keep you at bay. I don't like drops either so I can sympathize.

I want to take a nap but I think I'll do some exploring while the sun is still shining brightly. I'm working on a few collages so I can get some pen pal letters out in the mail. I am a bit behind in my letter writing and it was nice to see the man next to me at the coffee shop this morning was working on getting a bunch of cards and letters out. It gives me hope that some people still write hand written notes. I am very sad to hear that Saturday mail may soon be a thing of the past. One of the news station did a 'man on the street' type piece and no one cared about Saturday service. I was kind of surprised but I guess I don't like change that much.

I'm pressing a new collage at the moment so I'm waiting for glue to dry which strikes me as funny.

eat pray love

The local movie house was giving away mini posters for the upcoming films so I snagged one for eat pray love. I spent the last weekend house sitting and I'm doing it again this weekend so I need to clean up my place in the two days off. I'm going to learn to use my sewing machine and it should be scary.

more books

I made this for my mom's birthday and it was a hit. I didn't think she would like it because it wasn't quite her style but she loved it. It was mostly blank inside so she could customize it. Loving my journal and more pictures to come.
